Hanoi Taxi Fares Explained

In Hanoi, taxi meters start the fare at around 10,000 to 15,000 VND for the first kilometer. After that, the price goes up by about 13,000 VND for each extra kilometer you travel.

For a short trip in the city center, like 2 or 3 kilometers, you usually pay 30,000 to 50,000 VND. Longer trips, for example to West Lake, can cost 100,000 to 150,000 VND.

A ride from Noi Bai Airport to the Old Quarter usually costs 300,000 to 350,000 VND by meter. At night or in heavy traffic, the price might be a little higher than this range.

Starting in 2025, passengers can also agree on a fare with the driver instead of using the meter. The rate chart must be shown inside the taxi or on the app.

About Taxis in Hanoi 🚕

To get a taxi in Hanoi, you can wave one down on the street, go to a taxi stand, or use a ride app on your phone. Always check that the taxi has a company logo.

There are different taxi colors like white, green, or yellow, but the color does not always mean the same company. Look for big names written on the car to be safe.

Main taxi companies include Mai Linh, Vinasun, and Taxi Group. These companies are known to be reliable and you can trust their drivers more than random taxis.

You can pay for your ride with cash in Vietnamese Dong or use a ride app to pay by card. Always ask for a receipt when you pay with cash.

For safety, only use taxis from trusted companies or book through apps like Grab, XanhSM, or Be. These apps show the driver’s name, photo, and car details before you ride.

Never get into a taxi that does not have a meter or a clear company sign. If you feel uncomfortable during the ride, ask the driver to stop and get out.

Taxis are available all over Hanoi, day and night. At the airport, use the official taxi queue outside the terminal to avoid scams.

If you need help, ask hotel staff or shop owners to call a taxi for you. They often know which companies are safe and honest.

Ride apps like Grab and XanhSM are very popular and easy to use. You just enter where you want to go and wait for your driver to arrive.

Some taxis offer cars, while others offer bigger vans for groups. Choose the right size for your luggage and how many people are with you.

Always check that the taxi’s meter is working when you start your trip. This helps avoid arguments about the price at the end.

Keep your belongings close, especially phones and wallets, during the ride. Do not share personal information with the driver.
