Athens Taxi Fares Explained

Taxi fares in Athens start with a base fee of 1.80 euros when you enter a taxi during the day. After that, the fare increases by 0.90 euros per kilometer traveled during daytime hours from 5:00 to midnight.

At night, from midnight to 5:00, the per-kilometer rate rises to 1.25 euros. There is also a minimum fare of 4 euros to cover very short trips, ensuring drivers earn a base amount.

Trips starting or ending at ports, railway or bus stations add a surcharge of about 1.07 euros. Airport rides have fixed rates: 40 euros during daytime and 55 euros at night, including all fees.

Additional charges may apply for luggage over 10 kilograms, costing 0.40 euros per piece. There is also a 1.20 euro booking fee added to each regular trip when using app services.

Drivers apply a taximeter to calculate the full fare based on distance and waiting time. If stationary over 20 minutes, an extra 15 euros per hour may be charged.

Some service levels such as premium or larger taxis include higher booking fees ranging up to about 5.65 euros per trip, reflecting extra comfort or vehicle size.
